Border Patrol Finds Bikers

start- hwy 9end- hachita,NMmileage- ~95 miles Well last night was rather interesting. Sleeping with the border 3miles to the south and a barb wire fence 1 foot to the north always proves to be exciting. Then around 4 am flashing lights stopped outside on the road, then 3 more patrol cars stopped. I was sure I was going to be taken away as illegal immigrant. But alas, after 10 minutes of debating, and interrupting my beauty sleep, they took off. Perhaps they were looking for the chubacabra. We got out on the bikes around 8:30 am while the heat was quickly building. With massive amounts of sunscreen and a belly full of granola, gadget stew was ready to ride. We had about 45 miles to get to Columbus, well, but a single speed mtn bike on flat pavement just plain sucks. Such is the life I've chosen. Columbus had one little convenience store, and I bought some grapes, an apple, and a cold drink- extremely satisfying. Then we moved on, planning to reachc Hachita- about 45 miles down hwy 9. Of course, as we're hitting a nice rhythm I got a flat on my front tire. A nice thorn stuck stuck in it. Really sucked, but it got changed and we rolled on to eat dinner. Under a full moon we finished the last hourinto Hachita to find nothing! All I wanted was a cold beverage full of EtOH. There's not even anywhere to buy food here- what kind of town if this? Now I'm sleeping on the ground next to the road with border patrol cars driving by every 30 minutes. Tomorrow we reach the border and the official southern terminus of the GDR! Rock on. Time to catch the 'ol zzzzzs. Peace.
