Day 37 - 6/22/08
Start - Arapahoe Creek
End - Past South Pass City
Mileage - ~67 miles
Amazing stars last night in the Great Basin, probably the best of the trip. I tried to stay up as long as possible, but the inevitable fatigue set in. Today was a super nice day. The skies were rather overcast, therefore negating the previous high probability of perishing by cooking from the insides out in the Great Basin. We kicked out 50 miles pretty quick and got to Sweetwater creek for lunch around 1pm. Also passed the first Tour Divide racers today. Crazy guys racing from Banff to Mexico, sounds like something I'd be into. But as expected, they were pretty damn whipped, at least the first guy was. Matthew Lee, the 2nd dude, was looking and feeling strong. Rock on guys. Then into Atlantic City - a super small and quaint historic town. We went to the one restaurant/bar and I indulged two local Atlantic City Gold Pints and a grilled cheese. Delicious. Then 10 miles on to camp out. Tomorrow we're heading to a Rainbow festival- basically a big hippie gathering. There's supposed to be like 20,000 people there for July 4th, but I think there's only like 6,000 now. I've always heard about these festivals and have wanted to go, and it just happens to turn out that it's happening just a few miles off the trail. Should prove to be an experience at the least. Time for mac and cheese and some reading time. Laterz.
