Ankle and Separ
4 - 5/19/08start- Big Hatchet Campgroundend- Separmileage- 40 miles We had about 12 miles to ride this morning from big hatchet to get back to Hachita, NM. The first little injury started this morning- my achilles tendon started to hurt at the end of the ride last night, and was still rather sore this morning. We rode into town and located Sam's place- the local trail angel. After resting in his shade, we went looking for him and found Sam at the "free coffee" shop. Hachita is a rather interesting place with souls very large. Every one seems very willing to help us out. A great place. So now I'm sitting on Sam's couch, having my clothes washed, icing my achilles tendon- just kickin' it before moving onto Separ. Right now we're overlapping with the Continental Divide Hiking Trail, and I'm not going to lie- I do have some urges to be hiking. But I know I just have to bide my time, I'll eventually be walking this section of the US- this ride is a nice teaser for my future CDT hike. We've got about 2.5 hours to reach Separ and will head out in a few hours. Today and tomorrow will probably be a little shorter so I let my achilles tendon heal a little bit. But overall, we're both pretty stoked to be heading north on the trail. I can't wait to get into the high country and out of thorn country. Bike on!
