Day 29 Salida and the Kayak Festival

Day 29 - 6/13/08
Start - Marshall Pass Campground End - Salida, CO Mileage - ~26 miles
We woke up today to about a 25 degree F temperature- a chilly morning, but the air was fresh. Waking up to that isn't that bad, given the fact that I'm still in my sleeping bag and can roll over to cook some hot oatmeal and green tea. However, it becomes a bit nippy when you start to descend about 2000 feet at around 20 miles an hour. I froze. But I think the views were worth it.We got into Salida, CO around 9:30 am and hit the bike shop first. My package of calories was there- yay! Stewie eats again. Then we rolled by the coffee next door. Our arrival to Salida coincides with the kayaking festival FIBArk- super chill with great boating and microbrews. We're squatting on the other side of the river on train property for the night and hopefully won’t be beat by a bull at 2am or anything. After a cold-ass shower in the river, we went to Amica's, the local pizzeria with microbrews. A veggie calzone and hometown IPA set just right. Then a little library time to catch up on the world. Now I'm watching a funk band tear up the scene and then we've got another New Orleans band after them. I'm about to pick up a New Belgium beverage, a little dinner, and enjoy the night. Amazing. Tomorrow we are on the trail again and should be in Breckenridge in two days or so. Rolling like a DJ is my style and that's how it goes in the West with Stewie no days. And remember "cool is the mouse that digs his cheese". Laterz.
