Day 31 Cowfields and Breakfast

Day 31
Start - Elkhorn Rd
End - between Breckenridge and Silverthorne
Mileage - ~55 miles
Woke up in a nice cowfield this morning, a bit cold - probably around 30 degrees or so. But a nice pot of green tea woke me up while I finished up Catcher in the Rye- new book time! We got into Como, a super small little town, around 10 am or so and decided to indulge my favorite meal of the day- brunch! After pancakes and a breakfast burrito, I was ready to climb to the 11,482 foot Boreas Pass. There were some mixed opinions as to if it was still covered in snow, but we decided to take our chances and go over it. The dirt roads sure beat a potentail 60 mile road ride to bypass it. The climb was beautiful. I think climbing is my favorite part of trip. Other than being a roadie, it gives me time to look at the mountains. The miles fly on the descent, but the views also fly by. Regardless, there were only 3 snow drifts to walk our bikes over- not quite as epic as our 12+ hour slug on Brazos Ridge, but the top was nice to reach. After a few pics on top of the boxcar at the summit, we bombed the remaining 9 miles into Breckenridge and are now hanging out. We had an amazing lunch at the local brewery. I had a blueberry porter- quite scrumptious. We've got a few phone calls to make and then Mark's got a friend we're staying with tonight. The only catch is that we have to climb a 7 mile pass to get there. Therefore I might just have a double shot of espresso to wake up the body. Uncus, my bike, is running great now. I played mechanic last night and removed a link and played around with the wheel. Things seem to be in order and running smoothly- which makes me quite happy. Off to the road for the last few miles of the day, and then.....a shower!!
